Multicultural organization development aims at reducing racism and sexism in institutions and organizations in the United States. It is achievable by transforming the organizations鈥?culture. In human service Rams David Long Jersey , multicultural development is important as it emphasis on empowerment and human development. It leads to a strengthened client interactions, improves communication within the organization, improves on multicultural ideologies and creates a conducive intra-organizational learning environment. In his article, Multicultural development in human services agencies: Challenges and solutions, Hyde (2004) reported on a study he carried to identify the challenges and solutions to multicultural organizational development. Evaluation of research methodologies: Hyde (2004) carried out in-depth interviews to collect the data he used in his research. He interviewed 20 consultants and twenty practitioners in the metropolitan area of New England. He chose his respondents according to expertise (reputational case selection) and on the basis of certain characteristics (purposive selection) (Miles & Huberman Rams Darrell Henderson Jersey , 1994). All the interviewed individuals had ample knowledge and experience in multicultural development in human services from diverse origins. These individuals had the necessary information that Hyde needed for his research. The diversity could also provide him with ideologies from diverse communities. He initially consulted with his colleagues and selected an initial group of eight respondents from his professional network. The eight respondents then recommended the rest of the rest of his interviewee. The idea of consulting with colleagues and using his initial selected group to recommend the rest of his sample enabled him to pick the most appropriate respondents for his research. In order to incorporate diversity in terms of sex and race, Hyde interviewed eleven women and nine men out of the twenty consultants interviewed. Among these four were Latinos, seven black, one Asian and eight white people. All the interviewee had a master鈥檚 or doctorate in either social services, community-based agencies or in education. Of the practitioners interviewed Rams Taylor Rapp Jersey , seven were men while thirteen were women. Five of them were black, tree Latino, nine were white and three were Asian. The practitioners worked with agencies providing health care, job training, housing Rams Cory Littleton Jersey , substance abuse recovery, family preservation and community development. The selection of respondents from different races, sex, expertise and experience increased the diversity of the data that Hyde collected for his research. The diverse sources of data were in accordance with the research question that is the problems and the solution to these problems of multicultural development in human service. The diverse data would provide with ideologies from different sexes, races Rams Robert Woods Jersey , and professions. The diversity would assist in achieving the objective of the research. He gathered the data using unstructured schedule interviews where there are a set of questions, but their order, phrasing and followed up are different depending on each respondent (Denzin, 1989). He provided the interviewees with the definition of multicultural organization development (Gutierrez & Nagda, 1996) Rams Eric Dickerson Jersey , and they compared their practices with the model. He tape-recorded and transcribed the interviews for data analysis. The tailoring of the interview questions as per each respondent enabled flexibility of the interview so that he get diverse personal ideologies. The constant comparison guided hype in his analysis of the data (Charmaz, 1983). He identified the core themes in each interview and compared them to determine the points of disagreement and common sample in the sample. He later developed analytical categories of MCOD process that assisted him in identifying a diversity-training model for human service (Hyde, 1998), possible challenges to implementation and solutions. Literature review evaluation: Hype in his literature review starts by introducing the need for multicultural development in human services agencies. The multicultural development in human services agencies is important due to the increasing population of elderly and disabled people, widening income gap and the increasing diversity in color (Bocage Rob Havenstein Color Rush Jersey , Homonoff, & Riley, 1995). Similarly, human service managers should also incorporate greater race, age and gender diversity in service workforce (Iglehart Tyler Higbee Color Rush Jersey , 2000). By citing these works done by other writers, Hype introduces the research problem.
